Whistler Flyfishing, Downtown Squamish.

Squamish now has a flyfishing shop located on Main, and Third St. in downtown Squamish. It's pretty cool because now there is a place to buy fly tying materials, and outerwear. There is a selection of rods, reels, and lines to meet everyones needs. Lots of flies, are displayed on the counter. It's great to work in a small shop because everything is right there at your fingertips. This is a real change for me to work in a shop that I get to talk about flies, and flylines and fishing in general. Also it's great to get paid to do that. Working for Brian and Whistler Flyfishing is going to be fun!!!.. So come pay us a visit it will be worth your while... We'll give you all the information you need to have a positive expierence out on the river..

The Mighty Thompson River!!...

It was a whirlwind trip to the Thompson. Andy, Kris and myself headed up for a couple of days of fishing a world famous river with BIG steelhead. We arrived on the river on Saturday morning and started at the task of trying to catch one of those big bad boys!!.. Needless to say by sunday all we had seen was some nice rainbow trout by the trout master himself Andy, had caught.. It was great to be on the river since neither of us had ever tried fishing for the legendary steelhead that lurk in it's pools and runs. The weather was cold and clear. Andy and Kris slept in a tent while I slept soundly in my car.. I ran into a few people that I knew, Shain from Squamish, and Kara from revelstoke, and also met some guys from the states. We went to the log cabin pub and had some great food.. We camped out at the grease hole campground.. The river is wild and It is hard to wade because of the slippery rocks. I now can say that I've fished the mighty Thompson River!!!.. And mighty it is.. If it opens up again sometime I will go and give it my all to catch a Thompson Steelhead..

Melanie's Last day..

The day had to come sometime.. The last day that Melanie could set foot on the river, and cast a fly in hopes of hooking up with a big chum.. and as luck would have it she did. It was the last time she would be in Squamish, and the Brew Pub. So we had to go and have beer and natchos. We made the day last as long as we could hangin' out in the pub, talking and laughing, and enjoying the last time together. Then it was off to the airport to see her off and say goodbye but not forever. It was a great year and a half and I will never forget it for as long as I live. I will always remember the fun and good times that we had...

The Gang, At The Toilet Bowl!!...

The gang was all there, Me, Mellanie, Brian, Ron, Ken and Jonathan. We fished a spot on the river named the toilet bowl, because there was an old toilet that someone had put right at the rivers edge. Also because the tide comes in pretty high in that spot and creates kind of a big bowl of water.. It was to much fun, hangin' out with everyone and catching fish. We brought down the lawn chairs and made up our office outside. We had the big screen tv, so to speak because we had such great scenery as far as the eye could see.. We stayed there allday and in the end everyone took some fish... The Toilet Bowl delivers all the chromers one could ask for.. A great spot!!!...

Fun Fishing, Great Food..

The day started early as usual. I headed up to Whistler, to pick up Marie. I met her at six in the morning and we came back to fish the Squamish for Pinks. We only had a short day because she had to work. in the end it turned out she didn't so we decided to get some things from Nesters Market in whistler, and it was off to her house to cook up a nice fresh salmon. We also got lots of fresh vegatables, and made a salad. She made an incredible salad dressing, and some bread it was great!!. Her place that she was renting was a nice shalet style cabin, with a big table in the middle. It was great hanging out and having such a great lunch. The food was good, the company great. And the fishing was fun to...

Fishing With New Friends, And Old Friends...

Tight lines lots of fun and some awesome company. I took Marie, out to catch a few pinks on the lower Squamish. What a blast I had tons of fun, she had never flyfished before and she was very eager to get out there and try it. I did my usual and taught her the basics of casting and she did the rest. I couldn't believe how fast she learned. It was a great day, eventhough I didn't even cast a line that much. It was warm and sunny. It's great because I am off for a week, and having some new friends and old friends, out on the river is all that counts. I invited Dave, Andrea, Holden and Avery to come and try some fishing. It was great to finally get them out there and watch them hook up on a few. I ran into lots of other people that I haven't seen for awhile. My good buddy Cliff, even showed up and it was great to see him as well. Kirt an old buddy of mine from way back came up a few times and it was good to see him as well.. It was a social event all in all, and that's what makes it so much fun to hang out with everyone.

The Fly Tying Lesson..

Melanie wanted to tie her own fly, so I showed her how. It was a great success, the fly looked great and it worked like a charm. She used her fly the next time we went out and she caught a dozen pinks.. It was great to see her catch fish on something she tied herself. She was very happy to learn how to do that, and I was happy to teach her. She is a very good student and a fast learner.

TOP ROD FLYFISHING CLUB, SQUAMISH BC..

The Top Rod Flyfishing Club made an appearance on the river the last few weekends and made a bit of a commotion. The cast of characters, are Stefan Bulowski, Melanie Biemanne, Brian Mcnaughton, Jonathon Barlow, and Andy Racz. All members were cacthing lots of fish, and having a blast. As the fishing commences, our newest member did very well hooking up on fish after fish, and landing them all on her own.. What a show. I gave her some instruction on how to land them and she did very well, Melanie impressed me every time she hooked up.. Her casting was awesome and her determination was fierce.. Archie, and his wife were out there and they did well, his wife Lynne, and Melanie were catching alot this one day and we called it ladies day!!. Melanie said I can't remember when I had this year so much fun at all!!. What do I need more as great salmon catches, and a sunburn for free!.. There you have it coming from the Flyfishing Guru from Germany..

Rescue Mission, Lower Squamish River..

It all started out as one of my routine fishing days on the lower Squamish River. I met Jonathon, in the morning and when I saw him he said the river was up pretty high and flowing fast. We looked at it for awhile and there was no way that we could get to the the bar on the other side of what was now a raging side channel. Then things got alittle crazy. There were a bunch of people camping on the Island and they were stranded and couldn't get back over to the dyke. I saw Brian from Whistler Flyfishing, and then Pat showed up with his raft. He went to get everybody back from the Island, and then had to get all their gear over, and that took a few trips. There was one other guy that was fishing out there that I had to go and help pull him out of the river and back on the river bank. I waded out about halfway accross and grabbed him. Everybody was back on the bank, and some were alittle wet. After all that they were happy that we were there to help and we talked for awhile and hand shakes, and high fives all around. It was one of those flash floods that happened so fast after the five hours of heavy rain that fell the night before. The sun is shining and everything turned out well!!..

Squamish Climbers Festival Part 2..

The good times keep rolling, I went with Dave, and Tom, to see yet another collection of great films at the festival. The guest speaker was Ed Cooper, who did the first ascent of the grand wall on the Squamish Chief. It was one of the most prolific ascents of all time and put Squamish on the map as the best climbing area in BC. Some of the photoes that he showed were from his personal collection, and had never been seen before. It was great to hear of his other accomplishments that he has done in his life. I went climbing with Dave, on sunday and we had a great day in the Smoke Bluffs. We climbed a couple of routes at Ronins Corner one that was 510b we climbed it on toprope. It was fun but there wasn't much to hold onto slab climbing at it's best. Dave tried it first, and then I tried it and made it to the top it was awesome.. After that it was to the Brew Pub for a great steak dinner. A great end to another great outing with Dave..

Squamish Climbers Festival 2011'.

The climbers festival is here again, but the weather is not cooperating in the least. It's wet and damp out but it still is nice to be hangin' in Squamish. I have met a dude from Utah and we went to the Friday show at the Eagle Eye Theater, Dave Jones has made an appearance and went to the show with Tom, and myself. We are going to go to another show and hopefully we will get to touch rock, some time soon. On this day saturday, we have just been hangin' out went for breakfast at Big D's and then wandered over to the climbing shop to look around. We then went to the Adventure Center,. All in all it has been fun so far I have seen a few people that I haven't talked to for awhile. It's great to go out and see the films, and meet new people in some ways it's like a reunion of sorts. Hopefully the weather will get back to normal and everything gets dry again then it will be time to climb..

Melanie, On Ivey Lake..

I took Melanie up to Ivey Lake, on saturday and she used a float tube for the first time. Looking like a pro she cruised around the lake and had a couple of bites. I had a few as well and it was good fun. It was a reasonably nice day, alittle cloudy, some rain, but over all I think she enjoyed herself. I sure had fun taking her out there. We will go again..

North Walls Project, Solo Mission... 2nd Entry.

This Is my second post on my new route project. I now have two pitches finished, one is a fun layback, crack and corner the other is a bolted slab pitch. The second pitch is steep, in some spots with some little edges, and small finger holds. Towards the top of the pitch it gets a little lower angle. I still have a third pitch in mind, but info on that will come later...
